Many Americans Believe They Are More Active Than They Really Are.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends 4 hours of exercise per week, but Americans are only managing to get away with half of that. Contrary to popular belief, experts say exercise doesn’t require machines or misery.
Move Your Mood Up a Notch.

A positive mood and outlook can seem hard to hold on to when you’re getting pinged by everyday demands. Luckily, the fast-acting remedy may be as close as your walking shoes.

In fact, mental health experts say that most adults can feel the mood-boosting effects of moderate exercise within five minutes after an activity. And the more regularly you exercise, the longer you can reap the benefits.

Motivate Yourself.

Follow these 4 tips to help keep up with your fitness routine and keep the good feelings going:

  • Pace yourself. Don’t feel like you must “overdo it” in the gym. Exercise should build you up, not burn you out.
  • Let your inner kid choose. Do the activities that you most anticipate and truly enjoy.
  • Mix it up. Changing your routine can change your perspective and make exercise more fun.
  • Work out with a friend. Keep your routine—and each other—on a happy track.
Time It Right.

How long before a workout should you eat something? Should you eat protein or carbs? What’s better to avoid? Use these tips from the American Heart Association to learn more about eating for the energy you need to stay in top working order before, during and after your workout.
